H. Nicole Hess, PhD
Licensed Psychologist, PSY22960

Dr. Hess is a licensed psychologist who has extensive experience in the mental health field. She has specialized training in neuropsychological assessment and diagnostic evaluation of clients ranging from infancy to adulthood. Areas of speciality include Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), learning disabilities, Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, anxiety, and depression. Dr. Hess enjoys exploring subtle-presenting traits of ASD as well as the female presentation of ASD with clients through neurodiversity-affirming consultation.

Dr. Hess' interest in psychology started in a non-clinical setting when she taught swim lessons to children with special needs. After starting graduate school, Dr. Hess acquired practicum training in early intervention for children with autism spectrum disorder and worked in a day-treatment setting with children with a variety of developmental and emotional issues as well as challenging behaviors.

Dr. Hess received her doctoral degree from Pacific Graduate School of Psychology in Palo Alto, California where she specialized in child psychology and neuropsychological assessment. She completed an internship at Children's Hospital Autism Intervention in Oakland and a residency at the Autism Spectrum Disorder Center of Kaiser Permanente. She was also involved in cutting-edge research related to autism spectrum disorder, including the Early Autism Risk Longitudinal Investigation (EARLI) through Kaiser Permanente. For the past decade, she has conducted hundreds of evaluations with a diverse range of children and adults to address a wide variety of referral concerns. Dr. Hess continues to enjoy a relationship with Kaiser Permanente as a contracted provider for ASD and neuropsychological evaluations.

Outside of work, Dr. Hess spends time with her husband, two children, and dogs. She enjoys running, reading, listening to a variety of music, and traveling to see her favorite bands.

Rebecca E. Schilling, PhD
Licensed Psychologist, PSY24056

Dr. Schilling is a licensed psychologist who has a well-established background in assessing and treating a population of clients diverse in age, disability, need, ethnicity, and diagnosis. Areas of specialty include the assessment of autism spectrum disorders, Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, learning disabilities, emotional issues, and various forms of dementia. She also has an extensive background in early intervention for children with special needs.

Dr. Schilling received her doctoral degree from Pacific Graduate School of Psychology in Palo Alto, California where she specialized in child psychology, family systems, and forensic psychology. Through graduate training placements, Dr. Schilling conducted individual and group therapy, and she worked closely with emotionally-disturbed and at-risk youth in an intensive day treatment facility. She also participated in trauma research at Stanford University Medical Center through a program sponsored by the National Center for PTSD and the Department of Veteran Affairs.

After completing a dissertation related to the unique needs of children with autism spectrum disorders in child custody evaluations and custody arrangements, Dr. Schilling completed an internship at San Mateo Medical Center. There, she focused on neuropsychological assessment as well as treatment interventions in both inpatient and outpatient settings. She then went on to a residency at the Autism Spectrum Disorders Center of Kaiser Permanente.

In her free time, Dr. Schilling enjoys spending time with her husband, young children, and two dogs. Her hobbies include yoga, reading, and attending various sporting events.

Philosophy

As compassionate clinicians, Drs. Schilling and Hess strive to engage clients in a collaborative process when conducting evaluations in order to gain insight into each client's unique set of strengths and areas to target for development. Both psychologists truly enjoy working with children of all ages, adults, and families. They hope to improve the lives of clients by offering comprehensive, expert psychological evaluations designed to address a wide range of mental health issues. At Foundations Psychological Services, evaluations are conducted in a warm, respectful, and supportive environment in a way that fosters optimism and hope.
